Steamed baguette is the Southern Vietnamese “banh mi” speciality that has become quite rare and difficult to find, even in Southern Vietnam.
150 g jicama peeled, thinly sliced
75 g carrot peeled, thinly sliced
2 clove garlic minced
200 g beef cut against the grain, thinly slided
stock powder,salt,pepper,sugar
2-3 tbsp vegetable oil
1 bagguette cut into one inch circle
1/2 onion julienned
Fresh lettuce and herbs
5 scallion chopped

  5. My family eat this dish all the time, but my mum said before you steam the bread you need to wet the bread a little or it will still be too dry.

  7. So……. paying for old, stale bread. Just like paying premium for a T-bone steak, where the butcher trims off all the fat, then you buy back the fat as ground beef/pork.

  8. This is the best. I ate this once when I was in grade one, very simple with scallions oil , very delicious. As you said, It's very rare street food so later on, I try to recreate this with fresh sliced baguette and it's not the same. Thanks to you Helen, now I know it has to be steamed👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌

  9. Chỗ làm ng ta cho nhiều thiệt nhiều mỡ hành làm miếng bánh ướt sũng luôn, mà vầy có khi cuốn ăn lại ngon hơn. Mỗi tội bánh mỳ mà rưới sũng dầu thì ăn mấy mà béo T_T
